The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Link returns to form in the latest and greatest Zelda game for the DS.
The Good:
+ No expenses were spared when it comes to its visuals with well
presented, cinematic cutscenes and some of the best graphics on the DS.
+ Train transportation is a fun and unique gameplay
experience…although I’m not completely sold that trains belong in
the Zelda universe.
+ The ability to control a possessed knight, or Phantom, along with
Link, provides for excellent and innovative teamwork situations.
+ Wonderful attention to detail. Things like the draw distance that
allows you to see the Tower of Spirits or other locations while riding
your train and Link visibly pulling the train whistle when you pull it
on the touch screen only add to the charm of the game.
+ An enjoyable story that is darker than past Zelda games (though not
as dark as Twilight Princess).
+ While there is a temple (or rather a tower) that requires exploring
multiple times, you’re not required to trudge through floors you’ve
already navigated like the flawed and repetitve Temple of the Ocean
King in Phantom Hourglass.
+ Fun and innovative boss fights.
+ Catchy and enjoyable soundtrack.
The Bad:
- The character designs aren’t the series’ best.
- Didn’t anyone wonder or ask why Chancellor Cole was wearing two hats?
- Spirit Tracks has a longer introduction into the game than some
other Zelda games. Meaning you won’t be dungeon raiding, solving
puzzles, and slaying bosses for two or three hours.
Overall Rating: A
