Sapporo Breweries have announced the launch of SPACE BARLEY, a malt made with 100% space-raised barley.
The Japanese beer giant teamed up with the Russian Academy of Sciences and Okayama University to search for ways to sustain food supplies in the space environment. Apparently, Sapporo’s self-developed malting barley seed was among the crops housed in the cosmic labs for 5 months. Sounds cool, huh? Unfortunately there are only 250 six-packs of this zero-G ale for sale with a price tag that is equally out of this world. For only 10,000 yen per pack, it’s a good thing this money is going to charity. The proceeds collected will be put towards the benefit of science education for children and space research in Japan and Russia.
Got 10,000 yen laying around for some malt liquor? Too bad, because these brewskis are being raffled off in a lottery of applicants from Japan only. So to recap: if you live in Japan, have entered the lottery, are one of 250 entrants who win the lottery, and have 10,000 yen to support education and future food supplies for when the Earth collapses into itself and we’re forced to live in space, then you too can have some beer made from barley grown in space. Yeah I agree. I guess it’s really all about the novelty and the charity anyway, rather than the actual beer itself. It would be pretty cool to say you had food grown in space though!
That is way to much money for some beer-even if it is for a good cause. It better be top shelve beer for that price. O___o

Oh man, you need 10,000 yen AND a win in the lottery!? Jeez, that beer better be worth it. But yeah, this probably is more about the charity and promotion.
