Yes, you read that right. Apparently the Quarter Pounder does so well in Japan that the company has decided to launch a line of four special burgers that have something to do with parts of America. More »

Yes, the end of 2009 is upon us: time to reflect on what we’re grateful for, what we regret, what we hope to do better next year…you know, sort of like all the other holidays. In that spirit, I thought I would share with you guys why I sometimes (read:always) talk about anime, manga and other modern Japanese stuff as if it weren’t just enjoyable, but profoundly significant. Don’t worry, this won’t be one of those silly, look-at-me-I-went-to-college exercises that you see in books with titles such as The Simpsons and Philosophy and James Bond and Philosophy. If anything, it’s the opposite: I think the story of anime and manga (hereafter animanga, because I never liked having to refer to them separately) is quite simple, that any critic worth his salt could piece it together easily…if they could just bring themselves to take it seriously.

This is part one, in which I don’t actually talk about animanga at all. More »

From Ningin: Every so often, I experience Awesome Blog Post Overload Syndrome (ABPOS). ABPOS is sadly an untreatable condition in which Mixr bloggers blog way too many awesome blog posts that I just can’t function properly. It doesn’t exactly burn when I pee, nor do I experience any weird rashes — there’s just not enough room on the main page slideshow to be featuring all of these amazing blog posts from last week. For now, a temporary cure for me is if everyone would take a moment and unload my overload by enjoying the following blog posts from last week. More »

Two years after announcing their reformation and promises of a U.S. live show, veteran Japanese visual kei superstars X JAPAN have announced the filming of 4 new music videos to be set in Hollywood. From Ningin: Alas, my very first portable gaming system. Although I’ve been playing games since 1984, I never was fortunate enough back then to get a regular black and white Gameboy, especially not the Neo Geo pocket or Atari Lynx. Don’t know what these things are? If you don’t that’s fine, just keep it to yourself and don’t ask me what Moses was like during his teens. More »

From Ningin: Japanese Recycling is one of those things you need to experience before you die. It’s both amazing and annoying, and then depressing. If you’re like me (and you totally are) you probably think of Japan as a very clean country where recycling is king. I’ll let you in on something though, it’s a total farce. More »
