If you don’t know who Takeshi Kaneshiro is (shame on you), this post should prove quite enlightening. Known mostly for his roles in Chungking Express, House of Flying Daggers, Fallen Angels, as well as a host of other films, Kaneshiro is one of Japan’s finest actors and this post is going to show you just why…

1. He’s the Japanese equivalent of Keanu Reeves and yes, he knows kung fu
Part Matrix, part Terminator, The Returner (2002) was a fun and action packed film starring Kaneshiro as would-be hitman who goes from stopping a diabolical mob boss to preventing a future alien invasion. Sounds hokey but it was actually pretty good.

2. The man knows how to eviscerate demons like nobody’s business
Released in 2001, Onimusha Warlords’ lead, Samanosuke Akechi, sported a uncanny likeness to Kaneshiro. Of course, it wasn’t a coincidence. Samanosuke was actually modeled after Kaneshiro and gamers were delighted (at least I was) to slice through hordes of demons with Kaneshiro as the star…plus the game had a sweet opening. Check it out.

3. He sure is dreamy isn’t he?
I’m going to stay away from sounding like a swooning teenage girl but seriously, he’s one handsome dude. It’s no wonder all the girls (Zhang Ziyi for one) love him.

That does it for this meager post. Of course, this is all opinion and like everything, you’re bound to have your own idea of who’s the best actor/actresses in Japanese showbiz right now. Who’s yours?

Lived in Taipei for many years, so am in love with Japanese stuff third hand…I created an a/c only to tell you I was so googling him at 2.50AM my country time because I think he’s the best looking man ever made…It used to be a tie between him and Hiroshi Abe for me, but with this pic, is that even a question?

Heck yes he was! That movie is just sweet all around!

Huh? On Demand? I don’t have that kind of stuff. I don’t even watch television anymore. =\ Actually I was planning to watch the original two part versions online. I wanna see the full epic story. :) Awww. Still haven’t seen Red Cliff yet. That’s also on my long list shows/movies to watch.

I was lucky to find it on my cable server’s On Demand in the “Same Day As Theaters” section. It was playing at one cinema downtown but we were never going to find time to make it there before it left the screen. The On Demand option was so awesome, and it cost less than one of our tickets would have at the local cinema. Anyway, check your On Demand if you have it - it could be available still. You have GOT to see it!

What world have I been living in???
I did not know about him but I do now and I’ll make sure to find more about him xD

But see, with such faithful readers as you TucTo, I didn’t need to mention Red Cliff. :)

Red Cliff!!! He was a beast in that :D
I never knew the name of this guy until I read this article. I remember watching Returner and House of Flying Daggers and I was like “this dude is cool!”

Yay!!!

Okay I’m sorry but I have to say it. I agree with you that he is very handsome. In fact, I *do* swoon like a school girl, but just a little! There, it’s out in the open now. I’m glad we both agree. LOL!

On top of that, I think he could be considered one of my favorite actors, Asian or not. He’s quite talented, which only adds to his mystique.

^Agreed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear you are just like connecting with me! First Johnny’s now Oguri and Haruma!!! :O

I loved Takeshi Kaneshiro in House of Flying Daggers. His acting was so good in that one.

I have tons of favorite actors and actresses that I follow. But I really like Oguri Shin and Miura Haruma. I’ve been following them since my early days of watching asian dramas. I also like Aoi Miyazaki. Not only is she beautiful, she’s got the talent to move you.
