From Htcyou: What happens when a really well made and superior product is released, and no one buys it? Based on the number of unboxing videos for the Nexus One, I assume that every unit sold has had its unboxing recorded and then uploaded to YouTube. From Patrick Boivin comes the most wicked and creative unboxing of any smartphone. My only question is, what took him so long? More »

Where: Kamakura Station on the I-forget-the-name-of-the-line from Tokyo (app. 1 hour) What to do: See ancient temples and one giant buddha What not to do: Buy anything–tourist trap alert, level orange–go to the beach

Moving out in a widening gyre from Tokyo, and in tune with the oldschool stylings of Akira Kurosawa, let’s take a look at a nearby center of traditional Japanese culture: Kamakura. The second capitol of Japan (after Nara, and before Kyouto and Edo/Tokyo), Kamakura hosts well-preserved Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, as well as one of Japan’s two great daibutsu (big ol’ Buddha statues). Whilst searching through my On Demand listings hoping to get lucky by finding a Kurosawa movie I discovered a whole collection titled “Japanese Cult Films” in the Movie Collections section. I couldn’t believe my eyes, and my luck. The selections are available until 2/11/2010, so you have a good amount of time to watch them all, if you have Comcast. Click the “More” link for to see what’s showing. More »

For the Hello Kitty fan who thinks they have everything, you’re wrong! Because you don’t have the Hello Kitty video camera, that’s why!

Call me old fashioned if you want but ever since I recently purchased a Playstation 2, I’ve been seriously rocking out on it. While you wild and crazy kids, with your new-fangled next generation graphics, have been Modern Warfaring it up, I’ve been battling cyborgs to save a futuristic Tokyo and most recently, exploring the dilapidated environs of Silent Hill. Throw in the fact that I spent a quarter of what I would have buying Modern Warfare 2, and you’re looking at a very happy starving artist.

That’s why, with the 10 year anniversary of the PS2 upon us, I’ve decided to look back at the little black box with year-long coverage and an entire month special in October. But perhaps I’m getting a little ahead of myself. For now, you can look forward to new Plusle and Minun reviews, all devoted to the many games for the Playstation 2. So whether you’ve played your PS2 to death or you’ve never touched a dual shock controller (gasp!), hopfully this ongoing coverage will encourage you to pick up a controller and play these aging gems. From Girlybubble: Behold, what is pictured above is our beloved Japanese mascot and patron saint of relaxation, Rirakkuma and cupcakes. Almost everything I love in life is in that picture. A random thought occurred to me the other day: What if the two combined? How cute would that be and also…how confused would I be? A little research on the Internet yielded some answers and pictures. If the two combined it would be very cute, yet extremely confusing. To eat or not to eat? More »

So far, there are only a few high definition releases of Kurosawa works. There’s a 2007 French HD-DVD version of Ran and a Criterion Collection Blu-ray of Kagemusha. In February, this will all change with a slew of Kurosawa films being released, to hi-def Blu-ray, with more coming in March. More »

From Ningin: There are few artists out there these days that are consistently pumping out great music. With most people, songs are either hit and miss, and it is not uncommon for artists to be famous one day and fade into the shadows the next. YUI is certainly not one of these artists. More »

One Piece may not be your thing, but cute and fun songs should be. Former (*sniff*) Morning Musume member Mari Yaguchi has released a single called “Kaze wo Sagashite.”
