Oh, Japan. While you do love to through around your peace loving nature, recent trends have shown a darker streak. Polls of the Japanese public have shown that up to 85% of Japanese people are in favor of the death penalty.
What’s interesting is that compared to polls from years earlier, 4% more people are in favor of the death penalty.
The proportion of respondents in favor of the death penalty rose by 4.2 percentage points from the previous survey in 2004, indicating that the number of people who hold such a view has been steadily increasing since posting 73.8 percent in the first survey.
An increase is in poll numbers is not completely unexpected. Recent high profile murder cases have changed a few feelings in Japan.
And you thought Japanese people were harmless! Blah!
