Yes, Valentines Day was awhile ago. I’m late. Sort of. That’s because I live in Japan which means my obligations as a man on Valentines Day is no different than my obligations on any other day. It’s good to be a man in Japan on Valentines day.
You see unlike the West, where Valentine’s Day is the day where men try and impress the skirts off of their female “friends,” Japan does things differently. Men are not expected to do anything. Yup, nothing. See it is the women who are culturally obligated to give all their male friends, co-workers, family members, paper boys, etc. etc. etc. gifts of chocolate. In fact if some woman in your office who you’ve never spoken to gave you chocolates on Valentines Day in Japan, it would not be completely unexpected.
Ohhhh Japan. How good it is to be a chocolate manufacturer here.
