Japanese mythical creatures are always fun to learn about. Such as the long nosed and mischievous tengu. The more you learn about them, the less you actually want to meet one.

The tengu are small, long nosed, human looking, red faced, tricksters who live in the Japanese forest and play mean spirited tricks on priests and children. They’re said to be the souls spiteful of the dead.

Now what is really interesting is that some Japanese mythical stories have Tengu being the father of ninjas. Yes. Ninjas. Something everyone enjoys.

If you want a long and insightful history of the Tengu, check out this blog post over at Victory Manual. Plus there are ninjas.
