Are you a Macintosh lover? Have you been one long enough to collect several generations of Macs that now sit in your closet collecting dust? Well so have the Japanese, only they’ve taken it one step further. You only need to journey to Akihabara to see the Macintosh store that time forgot.
Hidden off a side street in Akihabara is the Macintosh store Nextro. A store that probably has every single Apple computer ever made on display. Or if not on display, stacked up in a corner. The goal of this shop isn’t to buy and sell vintage computers… no that would be too easy. The goal is to modify old computers with new parts to create a vintage looking system that is as powerful as today’s modern Macs.
To do this they strip out the guts of the computer, add a new LCD display and the guts of a modern Mac Mini. Suddenly that 20 year old Mac is a whole new beast which laughs in the face of modern Japanese materialism.
I only wish I had saved one of those old Mac Classics my High School was throwing away. Sadness is a trashed Mac.
