On August 18, popular super girl group AKB48 is scheduled to release their new single, Heavy Rotation. Their album cover jackets have recently been released. Above you see the Type-A jacket, featuring Oshima Yuko, Maeda Atsuko, and Shinoda Mariko in sensual lingerie.

And if the first jacket had too many girls for you, there’s a solo shot of Oshima Yuko in the Type-B jacket.

Because of these pictures, netizens (being the netizens that they are) have started taking sides. Some are flabbergasted by how little these girls are showing, asking what happened to the innocent girls that they knew? Others are defending their favorite idols, claiming that underwear is about the same as bikinis, and no one complains about idols in bikinis. Still other netizens are simply amused at how, and I quote, “they aren’t even pretending to be innocent anymore and going straight to the point.”

Well, I’m gonna leave my opinion out of this one.
