According to Anime News Network, on August 24th, Satoshi Kon, who was the director of Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers, Millennium Actress, and Perfect Blue, passed away from pancreatic cancer. He was only 46 years old.

Kon was famous for his style of creating suspenseful yet emotionally moving pieces of animation. Tokyo Godfathers shows the issue of homelessness, and Paprika portrays therapists who are capable of entering people’s dreams.

He also directed a thirteen-episode anime series in 2004 called Paranoia Agent. This series is quite creepy and suspenseful because it’s about a boy on rollerblades who attacks people with a baseball bat. The show progressively reveals the lives of the people affected by this mysterious boy.

I don’t know most of his works, but I do remember watching its trailer on Adult Swim when it first premiered quite a long time ago. I was too scared to watch it after the preview that I ended up turning off the television. I didn’t realize the person who created this person was this famous!

A lot of Satoshi Kon’s work makes us think about the world we live in and humanity. His creative ideas never failed to impress people. He will be greatly remembered.
Meanwhile, check out the Paranoia Agent official trailer below.
