This January, the anime version of Shiina Karuho’s Kimi ni Todoke manga series will be getting a second season, fast on the heels of its recent live-action adaptation. Production I.G. is once again in charge, and the new season will air on Japan’s NTV network.
From what I hear, Kimi ni Todoke’s selling like hotcakes right now in Japan. Literally translated to “reaching you”, it’s about an extremely shy girl name Kuronuma Sawako who’s avoided because she resembles Sadako from the movie Ring. Her entire life is changed however, by her encounter with Kazehaya Shouta, the friendly and popular “nice guy” of the class. Sawako starts to fall in love in Kazehaya, who also gradually becomes quite smitten with her.
It definitely falls into the category of Shoujo, but I’ll admit that I was hooked. I’m not caught up to the latest chapter, but I’m pretty sure I marathoned the first 38 or so. It’s an undeniably cute series that I think everyone should check out.
