Poplar Publishing announced that Hiro Mizushima’s debut novel, “Kagerou,” has reached a circulation figure of 1 million. Published under his real name, Tomohiro Saito, it took the book two weeks to reach 1 million. The hype is in part due to his winning the prestigious “Poplar Publishing Grand Prize for Fiction” in October. With his fame and winning the award, the buzz around the book was high even before the release.

The publishers even decided to print 430,000 copies, which is rare among a new writer’s debut novel. So how much has he earned from these sales? Approximately $1,700,174 US Dollars. With each book costing 1,400 yen (about $17 USD), and it has already achieved a sales mark of 1,400,000,000 yen, he will have earned 140,000,000 yen with his 10% writer’s royalty fees. Mizushima has taken a break from acting to concentrate on writing and his wife, who is diagnosed with Graves’ disease.

I just have to say “Holy Crap.” I mean, over a million US Dollars! That’s a ridiculous amount of money even in the US let alone Japan. Since he is like the best person and husband ever, I wish him and his wife the best! I do wish he would continue acting though!
