Stereotypical gender roles in Japan has recently been shifted as more Japanese men are willing to take on homemaking. Some opinion polls towards the change show that most males in their 20s and 30s have no negative thoughts in regards to men serving as househusbands.
Takatoshi Miyauchi, 31, gets up every morning at 5 to scrub floors of his Tokyo house. He will then do the usual household chores such as prepare breakfast, more cleaning, grocery shopping and taking care of his daughters.
Miyauchi’s wife works as an employee in the research and development department at a medical equipment firm.
Miyauchi reveals, “I used to underestimate housework, thinking it was easy, but now I’ve realized it requires a serious commitment.”
