The Sunday Telegraph of London has recently reported that there is an additive that helps people lose weight. The additive hopes to be put in food and drinks for the first time. Tokyo-based food company, Ajinomoto, sets out to use the extract of chilli peppers to help the body burn extra calories within all kinds of foods. The name of the extract is dihydrocapsiate (DHC) and it’s supposed to raise the metabolism of bodies. The extract is being sold in the U.S. and Japan but in the form of pills.

A spokesperson, Naoko Obara, explained, “Most weight management aids focus on caloric intake. Capsinoids are unique in targeting the other side of the equation, the caloric output. DHC is not positioned as a ‘magic bullet,’ rather, it should be used as one piece of the overall weight management equation.”

Britain’s Food Standards Agency (the FSA) has already deemed the extract as safe and the product is proven to help burn body fat and calories. It’s all up to The European Commission whether or not they’d like to use it as a food additive. It is likely to follow actions of the FSA.

That’s an interesting product. I’ve never taken medication to control my weight. What do you guys think?
