Times are extremely difficult in Japan so some companies that provide Wi-Fi decided to begin giving their connection to the population for free. This began on March 12th due to the severe earthquake that struck northeast Japan on the 11th.

Sofbank Mobile

One of the companies that will be providing their service for free is Softbank Mobile. Their service, “SoftBank Wi-Fi Spot” will be free of charge but will only serve those in the service area. If you’re a customer there’s no limit but there will be, of up to 54Mbps, for the public spots.

Livedoor Wireless

On selected dates (March 12 and 13) another service, Livedoor Wireless, will also be doing the good deed. Anyone who’s interested can find the selected locations where the Internet is provided on Livedoor’s coverage area map.

According to AsiaJin:

The SSID for the open network is “free-online-ld” (no password required).
They also provide optional login IDs (01@free@lw / 03@free@lw / 03@free@lw) and password (livedoor) in case authentication is required by the device.

FON Japan

The third company to prove their service is FON Japan who will provide their service for free until March 13th. To see any other offers or extensions you can follow their Twitter, @fonjapan.
