If you didn’t know already, popular Japanese male idol group Arashi has their own variety show, “Arashi ni Shiyagare“, and at the beginning of the show on March 19, the Arashi members personally presented a message to the victims of the earthquake in Japan.
Ohno Satoshi: “Everyone who has been affected by the recent disaster, please accept our condolences. This is the message from us, Arashi, to everybody who is watching this show, and to everybody who is not able to watch the show.”
Matsumoto Jun: “To Grandpas, Grandmas, fathers, mothers, big brothers, big sisters, little brothers, little sisters, and children who have been affected, and are exerting themselves to overcome the disaster. ”
Ninomiya Kazunari: “Only one thing we, Arashi can do for you now, is to do our best to show you ‘usual Arashi’.”
Sakurai Sho: “At the same time, we will also continue to do things we can do here in Tokyo, such as save electricity and participate in donations. We believe that a pile of tiny things can be big agent.”
Aiba Masaki: “Tonight, we will do our best with this show and our song to make everybody smile even for a moment.”
Such encouraging words, don’t you think? Just by looking at their faces, you can tell how sincere and concerned they are. I am so touched that Arashi can be a shining light of encouragement and hope for their country through their words…and a song.
Here is their performance of “Hatenai Sora” which followed the message:
The lyrics are very fitting for their tribute. Here is a rough translation of it:
“Now I can definitely hear that voice saying, “There is an endless sky out there.” Shall I change myself who cannot fly? Step out and no matter how many times it takes keep trying, with strength.”
Such heartwarming words. I think I shall add this to my list of favorite quotes. Even though sometimes there seems to be no way out of a bad situation, you can get back up and keep trying!
To wrap up the show, “Kaibutsu-kun” (aka Ohno) made a special appearance, with a message for the kids:
While I am glad Arashi is safe, there are many residents in Japan who are not faring as well as they. Let us remember the ones who have lost family members, friends and spouses and continue reaching out to them in any way that we can.
