If you’re familiar with North American anime on television, you probably have heard of Funimation who airs them. They originally filed a copyright complaint charging against a number of 1,337 John Does for distributing their download of an episode from Funimation’s TV show, One Piece on BitTorrent.
Senior United States District Judge Royal Furgeson decided in February that the complaint Funimation had against the other 1336 defendants would be removed because to make any charges, Funimation would have to file a lawsuit for each one of them individually, due to their not “acting in concert”.
Funimation obliged to this and dropped their lawsuits against those defendants according to their notice from March 18 but they did remember to re-file any complaints to them if they felt the need to.
It sucks for any companies whenever people like these do this but it really does happen often and it’ll take much energy to remove every single one of them. Best of luck to Funimation.
