There was an extremely high 6 billion yen bid on X JAPAN member YOSHIKI’s crystal piano up for auction on Yahoo! Japan recently. Sounds incredible, doesn’t it? Well, turns out that bid was too good to be true, as it was proven to be fake!
By April 21st, the bidder who was responsible for the 6 million yen bid was found, and the ridiculously high bid was discovered to have been a very expensive prank. Seriously, people shouldn’t joke about money so easily!
Because the price of the piano was so high, Yahoo! had temporarily suspended its auction in order to dive into investigating the bidder’s credibility. Once the fake bids were taken out, the price of the piano dropped to 53,057,000 yen (~$650,000). This auction is scheduled to end on the night of April 24th. Every last penny earned from it will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross to support earthquake and tsunami disaster relief efforts.
In my opinion, this was rather outrageous! Plus, it isn’t just any normal auction, as it is a crucial and sensitive time for Japan. I wonder if the person responsible for the fake bid apologized and was penalized. YOSHIKI must be feeling pretty down about this horrible incident. What do you think about this discovery?
