The story creator of Bamboo Blade, Masahiro Totsuka and the manga creator of Samurai Harem: Asu no Yoichi manga, Yu Minamoto has announced in a combined April 7th blog post that they will be launching a brand new manga series titled Haru Polish! It will officially be launched in the June issue of Akita Shoten’s Monthly Shonen Champion magazine on May 6th.
The new series will center around a high school girl named Haru Okamoto. It will be quite similar to the story of Bamboo Blade however, whereas Bamboo Blade depicted the tournament sport of kendō with bamboo swords, Haru Polish will deal with the practice of iai, the drawing and wielding of actual swords.
Two of the creators explained that they actually knew each other since before and have been discussing plans for working together, and both their stories, Bamboo Blade and Asu no Yoichi! have already been adapted into an anime by the same production company. Minamoto also added that when she was in high school kendō and iai were actually mandatory subjects for boys and girls. Minamoto also shared that she holds a belt in iai.
