As a self-proclaimed Japanese drama addict, I feel like I’ve watched my fair share of these entertaining TV shows. Though it wasn’t hard, considering how you always seem to find a storyline for your mood and then unknowingly start falling in love and angst with the characters and their decisions as the plot thickens. With this knowledge within me, I thought it’d be fun to go down memory lane and give you guys 5 Japanese Drama Items That Make Great Gifts for the upcoming holidays.

Cream Puffs from Zettai Kareshi (Absolute Boyfriend)

Now who doesn’t love food? Much less adorable pastries like these cream puffs that played such a fun and delicious role in Absolute Boyfriend. Without having to spend much, you can try your baking skills to create them on your own and then present them prettily in a box. See if anyone can resist nomming on just one.

Matching Cups from Last Friends

You can go either way with this cute idea for a gift. From the friends/housemates version that are colorful and sweet to the couple cups (like the one below) that also showcase the romantic legend of the red thread. Both do their part to represent the bond that is created when living with other people, though it also makes for a cute set to just have and make your house feel more like a home.

Bonus option: I thought the strawberry cups from NANA were also pretty cute, though this is from the live-action movie and not a J-Drama, but it was too adorable to not include. Plus it goes along to be a nice friendship item that you could gift.

Bento Box and Supplies from pretty-much-every-school-based-Japanese Drama (and then some)

Ah, the bento box lunch. The item that can be filled with your feelings, look pretty, and taste good to boot. This would definitely be an unexpected gift if you want to give something that the recipient can use almost everyday. Not to mention that the accessory items come in many options and are pretty cheap to pick up as well. It’ll definitely fuel any creative juices anyone has to want to try their hand at making a presentable and appetizing lunch.

Usa-Chan Plushie from Ouran High School Host Club

Well, it doesn’t have to be a bunny exactly…I just have a slight towards these floppy-eared animals. But the idea of gifting a plushie totally works for those people on your list that love cute items. Not to mention that if you make sure to choose a really soft and squishable one, they won’t be able to help but want to give it a big hug.

Saturn Necklace from Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers)

Without giving too much away for the plot, the significance of destiny between Domyouji and Makino is represented by this necklace. The fact that they’re both from “Saturn” (which had to do with horoscopes and the whatnot), followed why they are meant to be together and go through difficult and fun times.

It’s simplistically cute but I think that keeping this type of design aesthetic when shopping for jewelry definitely has a more magical quality about it that anyone would cherish and love to receive.

While most of can be found from a variety of retailer sources and eBay with a search, you definitely don’t have to go looking for these exact items to gift. Rather, variations are totally fine and will probably inspire you to look for something that matches the person you’re planning on giving any one of these gifts to. Happy Holidays!
