With the demand for e-readers nowadays, it’s no surprise that an airline has decided to build in a reader into their seats. But this one isn’t just any e-reader, it’s a manga reader!

Japan Airlines (JAL) and the Japanese publisher, Shogakukan have come together to produce “Sky Manga”, the world’s first airline manga reader. Starting next year, JAL Boeing 787 passengers on international flights will have access to this new service. Travelers will have access to Shogakukan’s manga titles with the screen in front of their seats. Not just in first class…not just in business class…EVERY SEAT!

Shogakukan has decided to offer the first three volumes of 30 of its manga titles including Diary of a Fishing Fool, Peak-Everyone’s Mountain, Major, Red River, and I’ll Give You My First Love. And in case you fly quite frequently; don’t worry, Shogakukan will be rotating titles and have a variety for all ages and genders.

The idea came forth to promote manga as part of Japanese entertainment and culture to international travelers. Unfortunately, there is no word whether the manga series that will be offered through “Sky Manga” will be offered in a languages other than Japanese…but you have to start somewhere!

This is a really nifty idea! Now if only JAL would lower its ticket prices so I can fly with them.
