Yoshiki, classically trained multi-instrumentalist and leader of legendary Japanese rock group X Japan, will compose this year’s theme for the Golden Globe Awards show.
This announcement was made by Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Dr. Aida Takla-O’Reilly and dick clark productions executive Barry Adelman. Dr. Takla-O’Reilly said,
Yoshiki is a world-renowned musician and composer of enormous talent and versatility, who in addition to being a rock superstar has composed for film and television. As an international organization dedicated to creative achievements, the HFPA is delighted to have a global musical artist of Yoshiki’s stature create the theme for the show.
And Adelman added,
We look forward to incorporating Yoshiki’s music into the production of the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
Yoshiki himself commented on this event, saying,
The Golden Globe Awards are extremely prestigious, but the show is also edgy. I’m a classical pianist and a rock drummer, so it was natural to create something beautiful that also has an edge.
Additionally, Yoshiki has been keeping his fans updated on the progress of the song through his official Twitter.
The 69th Annual Golden Globes airs on Sunday, January 15th around the world and live coast-to-coast on NBC, beginning with the pre-show from 4:00-5:00pm (PST) / 7:00-8:00p, (EST) followed by the main telecast from 5:00-8:00pm (PST) / 8:00-11:00pm (EST).
I, for one, will be watching this just to hear this song. Yoshiki is one of my favorite musicians, so I’m glad he’s been given this prestigious opportunity.
