John Sirabella, Ceo of North American anime distributor, Media Blasters, revealed that they laid off most of their staff on Tuesday. Their staff decreased from 15 to about 5 to 6 regular employees. The company plans on asking their former staff to work on free-lance basis. Sirabella said, “All of the small publishers are going through this sort of thing right now. Not just anime. Everyone’s transitioning from full-time staff to freelancers.” Media Blast plans on releasing the same amount of titles as before the lay-offs. It’s very sad to see so much people laid off but at least anime fans can still buy their releases. I hope the laid off staffs will find another job soon.
