Anime and manga fans, ever fantasize about certain characters in shows and series and wish they were real? I find myself drawn to the pretty boys (which means Shojo people…) more than the rugged and manlier-looking ones. Sorry to all Shonen Jump guys, though I still love a great number of them! Below, I have compiled together a list of anime/manga guys I would– and you might– love to date if they existed in reality. Sigh, if only they were…
Note: The ones listed are in no particular order, and no, just because I think they’re date material doesn’t mean you have to agree. Okies, let’s get started!
1. Edgar J.C. Ashenbert from “Hakushaku to Yōsei” (Earl and Fairy)
The ideal gentleman from Victorian England in his early twenties, Edgar is sure to make your heart skip a beat with his lovely blond hair and unique ash mauve eyes. While he is very flirtatious and can be tricky, he is very loyal to the one he loves, to the point he’d lay his life on the line for her. Edgar is very caring and protective, and will easily get jealous! His past is quite a sad story, such as once being heir to a dukedom before his family was murdered. Carrying the airs of a prince, I myself would totally not hesitate to date this guy! Yes, I would love to be treated like a princess. (He reminds me a bit of Tamaki Senpai…though Edgar is more mature)
2. Mashima Taichi from “Chihayafuru”
Having a strict mother, he’s a super smart student with the highest marks, always striving to be the best at everything he does. He is good at every sport he plays. He likes to win. He has good looks. His memory is amazing. He is an excellent leader. Does he sound like a boy your parents would want you to bring home to introduce to them? Also, his skills in Karuta are pretty beastly. Maybe he might even teach you a few Karuta tricks. Besides all of Taichi’s accomplishments though, he really is caring, and even if his love were not to be returned, he still will look after the girl as a friend. His eyes are quite enchanting, no? I would love to look at them forever, haha. And ruffle his hair… Just don’t tell him he’s short if you’re taller than him!
3. Hitachiin Hikaru from “Ouran High School Host Club”
If I could pick any Host Club member to date, I would most likely pick the devious and mischievous head of the devil/wild type twins, Hikaru! (I know, why not Tamaki, right? Wel, everyone has their own preference.) I absolutely love Hikaru’s sense of humor, though it can get a bit risky sometimes. Barely seen without his twin Karou, it might be a little hard to get through to him at first (and to tell them apart). Just be yourself and don’t fangirl over him, because that will probably turn him off for any serious relationship. Of course, he’s still dutiful in his job as a host, so he will treat you kindly. It’s when he starts to tease you and get a little “mean” without holding back that you can start to think something’s there. Hikaru is not very good at showing his emotions or any weakness, so try to be understanding and patient with him. But, he can be cute.
4. Kiryu Zero from “Vampire Knight”
Now this is the guy who you will feel immensely sorry for and want to huggle and comfort him always, also being his protector in a way. You know, the second guy who gets rejected yet still cares for the one he loves… so sad! His past is a terribly sad one, and weird thing is that Zero is both a Vampire Hunter and a vampire (against his own will) who needs to satisfy his continuous thirst for blood. So, if you are the very brave type of girl who is also kind hearted, go for him! Don’t be scared of his Bloody Rose, unless you are a vampire yourself. In that case, good luck trying to convince him you’re not his enemy. Oh, and you might want to be the one to strike up conversations since he’s not much of a talker.
5. Sohma Kyo from “Fruits Basket”
Ah, another boy with a sad past. Kyo’s mother died in an accident, and his own father rejected him. Cursed by the cat who lost the race to the rat to be part of the Chinese zodiac, he has bright orange hair with a very short-temper and highly competitive personality. When people first meet him, he’s most likely to pull on the awkward turtle costume, though everyone is stil attracted to him. One could say he has a bit of an anger management issue with a delinquent’s mark, but if you look deeper, he is a very vulnerable and broken but kind person who needs encouragement and love. He doesn’t like to appear weak, keep that in mind. I would love to stay by his side, even though he might think of me as annoying and try to swat me away like a fly (ooh that rhymed). Perseverance and persistence is the key! P.S. his cat form is quite adorable.
6. Karino Tadashi from “S · A: Special A”
Nope, I didn’t choose Takashima Kei, the most obvious choice one could have. Tadadshi is ranked 5th in their school, being the director’s son. Being one who likes to wander around quite a bit doing as he pleases, he might make a few careless comments or behave recklessly without actually intentionally meaning to, but he is funny and nice. He love to eat sweets and such, so if you know how to bake or cook food, he will love you for it. If Tadashi likes you, he might not know how to express himself clearly, so you might have to step up to the plate. Innocent and carefree, he is smarter than how he looks or acts. Like playing with puppets? Join him!
8. Hihara Kazuki from “La Corda d’Oro”
If you enjoy music, here’s an amazing and aspiring trumpet player guy for you! Kazuki is a 3rd year at Seiso Academy in the Music Department. Like his instrument, he is energetic, loud and carefree but also very friendly, helpful and considerate. Feeling down? He will do his best to cheer you up and keep you in an optimistic mood. He also tends to talk a lot… If you are picky eater, all your troubles are solved: Kazuki will eat anything and love it. Yeps, he’s what you can call a “garbage can” in a sense. But, he’s not fat; he’s in shape from running in the mornings and loves basketball. An all-round nice guy, who wouldn’t want to go out with him? Kazuki might even be able to teach you a thing or two on the trumpet. I can imagine always having fun and laughing with this guy.
8. Takumi Usui from “Kaichō wa Maid-sama!”
Um, he might come across as a pervert and unemotional guy by first impression, being a really popular boy at Seika High school. Usui is 17, who doesn’t really engage himself in anything. Instead, he loves to observe. Sometimes a little too much. His specialties include cooking, the violin, chess, and table etiquette, though he appears to be good at, well, everything he does. Get close enough to him and he might even tell you a bit of his background information that no one seems to know. One thing though. He most likely would have to be the one who notices and comes to you. He will show he cares by making perverted jokes, but he really does mean well (for the most part). If you fangirl over him, however, he will probably out flat reject your confession. If he picks on you, that means he is interested. He can be cute too!
Others I would love to date are: Knight from Absolute Boyfriend (after all, he’s programmed to be the perfect boyfriend), pretty much all of the guys from Uta No Prince-sama and the choices go on and on! Some of these characters are too good to be true, while others might appear a little scary to be around if they were real. They would make such great Valentine’s Day gifts. And, not just what they would give, but they themselves are the prefect present
(get yo minds out of the gutter!). Why, oh why do manga artists and animators raise our standards up so high by creating these beautiful fictional people?!
