Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing the latest film by Alexander Sokurov (Russian Ark, Mother and Son, MOLOCH), THE SUN is a fascinating character study that is sure to polarize movie-goers everywhere. Does that mean it’s a bad film? Not at all. In fact, the film has nestled it’s way into my top ten movies of the year list and stands as a haunting experience. More »
The Nintendo DS is proving to be THE platform this generation for RPG’s and today, popular Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, only reinforced that fact with the announcement of Estopolis (the Japanese name for Lufia). Yes RPG aficionados, more RPG goodness is on the way. The Square Enix developed remake of Lufia II, originally released on the Super Nintendo, will feature not only 3D visuals but full voice-over and a complete combat overhaul. More »

If you thought giant robots were something only out of japanese anime, think again. Meet Giant Torayan. Sculpted by Kenji Yanobe, this giant robo-baby was recently spotted in Tokyo’s Roppongi district during an art festival. Besides scoring super brownie points with otakus everywhere, the robot is capable of singing, dancing (although I’d hardly call swinging your arms dancing unless you’re me at my high school prom), and of course – breathing fire. I’ve included a video below for you to check out, as a picture of a robot breathing fire isn’t half as good as a video of a robot breathing fire. More »
Everything these days seems to end up becoming an anime. Take Devil May Cry for example, an anime based off the popular Capcom video game franchise. Or Samurai 7, a loose retelling of Akira Kurosawa’s famous film the Seven Samurai. It seems nothing is safe from the grasp of anime lately. So with that in mind, I decided to come up with five films that should be made into an anime series. Here’s what I got: More »

Some genres just don’t work well together. Take the science fiction and western genres for example. Despite starring the likes of Kevin Kline, Will Smith, and Salma Hayek, Wild Wild West was a travesty of celluloid film that few can forget. It should come as no surprise that since then, the science fiction and western genre haven’t been paired up again. And with good reason. Introducing blaster guns, mechanical monstrosities, and other high-tech future gadgetry into a world of cowboys, six shooters, and saloon sipping whiskey can prove quite a challenge. What you may or may not know, is that a year before Wild Wild West was tainting silver screens across the nation in 1999, another sci-fi/western mashup had been created. More »
Anime, so what is it? Why is it called called anime? And what’s the big fuss about it? Most of you reading this probably already have a wealth of knowledge on the subject but for those new to the scene, let’s go over the basics. More »

Welcome to Plusle and Minun Reviews. You may be asking yourself why I chose these two as the face of my reviews, allow me to elaborate. Plusle (left) and Minun (right) hail from the world Pokemon and bear a striking resemblance to the license’s well known face: Pikachu. The obvious difference of course is that one has a positive appearance and the other a negative one. More »
