It’s that time again bento boxers. This week saw the kickoff of two Rekuru specials, the Akira Kurosawa Tribute Month as well as our New Year’s Resolution Week so if you haven’t checked them out, do so. Between a classic film review and a hoard of new year’s resolutions, there’s plenty of good readin’ to be had. Also of note this week was the next entry in Jacob’s continuing Japanese travel guide as well as a look at Japanese music group SMAP’s NYC filmed commercials and news on the unemployment crisis in Japan. That’s it for this week, see you next Sunday. XOXO More »

And by horror, I mean horror anime. I mean, my goodness, self. You watched Vampire Hunter D and freaked out. You watched Nightwalker and freaked out. Princess Mononoke made you squeamish. Is there anything you can handle?

A new year/decade is upon us and with it, the chance for another swing at that one new year’s resolution that got away in ‘09. Along with the cavalcade of resolutions to work out more, get out of debt, or travel, we here at Rekuru are doing a little inner reflecting ourselves. More »

From Ningin: Alot of great/well known anime have been based on a light novel. Series such as Toradora, To Aru Majutsu no Index, Bakemonogatari, Baccano all started as a light novel. Translations for the original novels are available for some series at Baka-tsuki but most of them have little to no progress. Still, it gives hope that someday I’ll be able to read the original stories. Even if I didn’t like the anime for some series such as Kaze no Stigma or Shakugan no Shana maybe the source was a lot better. Some of the best anime have also come from light novels More »

With posts ranging from the 10 best DS games of the year, to a 2010 wishlist, to even a look back at Japan this past year, this was a trip down memory lane you don’t want to miss. Also worth mentioning was the announcement of Akira Kurosawa month which is guaranteed to be amazing. Just saying. More »

From Ningin: My top five anime for the decade. It was pretty difficult deciding which anime I liked the most. These are pretty easy to get into and shows some of the best of what anime has to offer. Even people who don’t like anime much should be able to enjoy these because they’re so good. More »

Some people make New Years Resolutions - lose weight, start exercising more, eat more vegetables, all that jazz. But really, all you end up with is a dusty stair-master in the corner of the guestroom. Me? I’ve decided to put together a wishlist of what I’d love to happen in 2010.

With 2009 coming to a close and 2010 on the horizon, I couldn’t help but think to myself: self, what kind of subjects have they not yet made an anime for (at least, in the last several years)? And that led me to come up with a humble little list. I mean, if they can make spinning tops and collecting cards exciting, what else could they do?

Comic cons, anime festivals, and the like have run their course this year. With 2009 almost at an end, I thought it would be fun to look back at some of the best cosplay of the year. And while the many festivals and conventions have come and gone, 2010 is around the corner with more cosplay goodness waiting to be had. More »
