Today’s video-of-the-day features SID with the beautiful “Otegami.” This song is very smooth rock—melodic and almost like a lullaby. Even the guitar solo is very calming to listen to. I’ve always been a fan of SID’s more ballad rock songs. The PV is just as beautiful; I love it for its traditional themes. The band performs in a traditional-style building, and a geisha figure is a central focus. More »

Today’s video-of-the-day features Heartless bringing you to the “Masquerade.” Despite their name and dark VK clothes, this band is pretty fun-loving with a fantastically upbeat rock music style. Syu’s vocals are unique (I love his semi-nasally voice), and the guitar solos are exceptional. The PV is really simple, featuring the band performing in front of a completely white background, creating great contrast to their style. More »

Today’s video-of-the-day features Ghost at the mental ward with a “Psycho Escape.” WARNING: Disturbing images, blood, internal organs – I’m quite fond of this video and its disturbia, but that’s just me… The scenes and visual effects make this a very conceptual video heavily based on the implication of the “psycho.” The song itself follows the same theme, featuring a strange melody and vocal technique that keeps you on your toes. Today’s video-of-the-day will have you munching on CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES in “Fly a Skull” which, I think, is like fly a kite, only better! Not only do I like this band for their name, but they feature a female vocalist with their rock-ish-punk style of music. The song is really fun with a beat that is made for bouncing along with it, and the PV has live footage of the band as they completely rock this song onstage. More »

Today’s video-of-the-day features -OZ- as they “Reverse” your world from singing to screaming. I really enjoy -OZ-‘s duel singing, especially since the switching vocal techniques don’t distract from the awesomeness of the instruments. Their sense of visual is also really great—this PV kinds of messes with your head. The camera is constantly moving, or the lights are, and the angles are usually obscure, only showing parts of the band members and their instruments. Love it! More »

Today’s video-of-the-day features soloist KIRITO with the beautifully sad “Cherry trees.” Watching this and listening to it, makes me want to cry. Despite the action, the PV has a stillness that is beyond being hopeful until the last image. The scenes are black and white with certain objects in color, making for some very striking instances. As for the song, I’ve always loved KIRITO’s voice (ever since his days with Pierrot), and the melody is soft, matching the mood of the video well. More »

Today’s video-of-the-day features VAMPS making your world “EVANESCENT,” and indeed, the emotions in this song show how fleeting things can be. HYDE sings about having memories of a past relationship, but also of moving on—the past is just momentary. His voice is absolutely gorgeous, and K.A.Z. plays an amazing melody on his guitar. The video also keeps with the title theme: in-between scenes of the band, there are shots of a woman, memories of HYDE’s, but her image shatters. More »

Today’s video-of-the-day features Vidoll putting things into “Focus.” This so is very bright and has a hopeful feeling to it, mainly because of the peppy melody, I think. They lyrics, also, are uplifting. Vidoll is singing for the youth who “can’t … smile like you usually do.” It’s meant as a message to “see the blue sky” in life and “don’t refuse to smile tomorrow.” More »

Today’s video-of-the-day features D with “Sleeper.” I really like this song because the melody is really engaging, especially in the chorus. It really makes you listen to what the guitars are doing and the drum beats, not to mention Asagi’s voice (and those eyes just staring into your soul). The PV mainly features shots of the band members with little flashes of a female character, presumably the ‘sleeper’ who wakes up from death. More »

Today’s video-of-the-day features a band that will EAT YOU ALIVE in “Clock wise.” As a side note, I love their band name, but these guys aren’t as threatening as that name would suggest. Their rock style has a melodious quality to it with only a hint of growled lyrics once in a while. Besides that, this band is on fire! Literally… there are sparks going off everywhere in this PV, though in a muted fashion considering a lot of the scenes are in black and white. It has a nice effect, though. More »
